Our next topic was all about journeys. We came back from assembly one day and there were footprints on our carpet! We talked about who they might belong to. We thought it might be a wolf or a tiger because of its long claws. The foot prints were leading to a present wrapped up, it was the story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' with a note saying Love Bear. We read the story with lots of us joining in because we know it so well. We talked about other words we could use to describe the bear such as soft brown fur, big furry paws and sharp pointy claws. Then we discovered the bear had got lost on the way back to his cave, so we needed to make a missing poster describing what he looked like so everyone knew what to look out for.
We also read the story 'The Girl, the Bear and the Magic Shoes'. We talked about all of the different types of shoes that the magic shoes turn into. This lead to a discussion about what materials shoes are made out of and why we need different shoes for different things. We decided to make a picture using real life pictures of trees and rocks just like in the book. Then we added ourselves to the picture and thought about what we wanted our magic shoes to turn into and what material they would need to be made out of.
