Stanhope Y5 Tournament
The year 5 boys team once again took to the pitch as they competed in a Gedling Tournament at Stanhope Primary. The team competed in a league of 6, playing 5 games. The team secured top spot with 3 wins, 1 draw and a loss. Having claimed first position they qualified for the semi final where they played the host school, Stanhope. The opposition took an early lead to which AMPS could not reply to, meaning the game finished 1-0 to Stanhope.
The boys once again played excellent football and were unlucky not progress further.
Well done to all of the players involved and a big thank you to all of the supporters that have cheered on the team over the past few weeks.
The boys returned to the Nottingham Forest Academy to compete in the u10s finals knowing that the opposition they faced would be of the highest order. The boys began their league by playing Lady Bay, after keeping their opponents out for most of the game it was disappointing to see them score a wonderful free kick with less than 60 seconds left of the game. Immediately after the boys faced West Bridgford, the game was very even and this was reflected with a 0-0 result. The boys played their final league game against Robert Miles, securing a 1-0 win with a goal from Tommy Jacks. The boys finished 3rd in their league which meant they played their final game against St Peters (3rd in their league). The game was very close but unfortunately it was St Peters that scored the only goal of the game, meaning a 1-0 score line to them as a result .
The boys will now play in a Gedling Tournament on Wednesday 13th May at Stanhope Primary.
NFFC U10s Tournament
On Wednesday 22nd April the year 5 boys football travelled to the NFFC academy to compete in the annual 6-a-side tournament.
The boys were extremely excited to be attending and were full of confidence heading into the event. The boys began well in their first game and created lots of chances but unfortunately they couldn't convert any of the chances and ended up losing 1-0. The second game saw the team trail by an early goal but the team showed great spirit and fought back to win 2-1. Heading into the last game the team knew they had to win, and needed a few goals to go with it, to finish top of their league. The team didn't disappoint, thrashing their opponents 5-0. This meant that they won their league and progressed onto a final game against league A winners, Stanhope. Once again the team dominated the game and were unfortunate not to win, narrowly losing again 1-0.
The team will now return on Wednesday 6th May to compete in the finals - this is the first time that a year 5 boys team from Arnold Mill has managed this achievement, well done boys - a wonderful achievement.
